The cycle is the deliverable.

We don't sell a website — we sell a compressed cycle. A long argument for why pricing the workflow, not the page count, is the only honest way to do this.

The conventional way to price a website is to price the artifact. Five pages, twelve pages, a custom CMS, a Shopify integration. Each line item gets a number. The numbers add up to a quote. The client signs the quote. The work begins.

It's a tidy model. It also describes almost none of the actual value the studio delivers.

The real product is the cycle

When a client engages a studio, they aren't buying twelve pages. They're buying a compressed window in which a coherent thing comes into existence — a thing that didn't exist before, in a form that the client could not have produced on their own. The pages are the residue. The cycle is the product.

Pricing the pages instead of the cycle creates two problems. The first is that the line items invite negotiation in the wrong dimension. "Do we really need the about page?" is a question that should never be asked, because the about page costs nothing meaningful inside the cycle that produces it. The second is that line items reward bloat. If pages cost money, more pages make the invoice bigger. The studio has an incentive to recommend pages the project doesn't need.

Cycle pricing changes the conversation

When the cycle is the unit, the conversation shifts. The studio is on the hook for an outcome, not a deliverable count. The client buys the right amount of cycle for the project — Essential, Plus, Custom — and gets the right artifact at the end. The studio is incentivized to be efficient inside the cycle, not to maximize the artifact.

This is also why we publish prices. Cycle pricing only works if the numbers are public. Hidden pricing pushes the conversation back to line items — the client has no way to know what a tier costs except by asking the studio, and asking the studio means submitting to a discovery process designed to find the budget.

The honest version

We sell three cycles: a one-week, a two-to-three-week, and an honestly-scoped custom. Inside each cycle, we ship the right artifact for the project. The price is named. The numbers are the same on day one and day twenty. If the project needs something we don't offer, we say so.

Pricing the cycle is the only way we've found to be honest about what a studio actually does. The pages are residue. The cycle is the work.
