Why the multi-month website is over.

What used to be a relay — design, copy, layout, SEO, CMS, deploy — now runs in parallel. Notes on the compression and what we learned shipping the first ten.

For most of the last fifteen years, building a website was a relay. A discovery phase passed off to a brand sprint, which passed off to a design phase, which eventually reached a developer six weeks later. Each handoff lost something. Each phase justified its own kickoff meeting. By the time anything shipped, the brief had aged out of date.

We rebuilt the workflow against that premise. Design, copy, responsive layout, SEO structure, CMS scaffolding, and deployment now run in parallel inside a single cycle. AI agents do the relay work that used to live across people and weeks. The studio reviews every artifact before it leaves the door. The byline is ours.

After ten projects on the new cycle, the numbers settled around something interesting: the floor on a serious website is now days, not months. Essential ships in about a week. Plus in two to three. Custom we still scope honestly. The compression doesn't come from cutting corners — it comes from killing the relay.

The lesson, if there is one: the bottleneck was never the work. The bottleneck was the calendar between the work. Once you collapse the calendar, the work itself is the same craft as before, just executed in front of a much narrower window.
